Dear Kids 4 Kids Club,
We are very busy trying to clean up our neighborhood after Hurricane George, here on Big Pine Key. Everything in our neighborhood still looks bad and we are not living in our home because of flooding. We are thankful that we have a family member living here that we are able to live with while we wait for insurance and repairs. We all still feel a little upset everyday when we see our house and neighborhood. We go to school everyday in Key West where everything looks normal and cleaned up. Sometimes we feel like people forget what happened to our island and to our homes. Fantasy Fest and other parties still go on, tourists still to come, like nothing has happened. Sometimes we feel unimportant and forgotten since our lives are still not anywhere near back to normal.
We wanted to write you and tell you how much your signs and Halloween treats meant to us. Our small children were so thrilled. Halloween was changed to Friday this year because of Fantasy Fest, which caused so much confusion nobody knew when to trick or treat, so nobody did. Our children were very disappointed, so on Sunday when they received the bags of treats from you they were so excited. They loved the decorated bags and are saving them. We loved the treat bags too, not for the candy but for the thought. It brought tears to our eyes, somebody was thinking of us, somebody remembers hurricanes don't go away in a week, a month or a year. So thank you all very much, we really can't find the words to express our gratitude for your kindness. Please know that your thoughtfulness made many children happy and brightened the day of many adults as well. I know the lessons your children learn by giving will pave the way to futures as wonderful compassionate adults.
Thank you all so much,
The Roman Family: Joan, David, Jacob, Ellen and Janie
