Dear Mrs. Davis,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing the City of Oakland Park to participate in the annual backpack distribution to homeless children in South Florida. Not only did it provide a favorable promotion for our City, but also allowed the City to make a difference in the lives of more thank three hundred Broward County children. It must have been very special for these children to see a police officer as a benevolent and helping person, instead of perhaps the less comforting way in which many of these children interact with law enforcement officers.
From the reports I have received fro the staff members who participated in the Broward deliveries, I know that the program touches the adults who spend time with the children, just as much as the children who received the new backpacks and school supplies.
The City Commission was very pleased with the reports that it received from staff regarding the distribution. I am certain that everyone involved would like to see Oakland Park continue it partnership with Kids 4 Kids. Please keep us apprised of any projects in which we can be of assistance.
Homelessness knows no boundaries; a homeless child in Miami-Dade County could just as easily later be a homeless child in Oakland Park. Thank you for allowing us to extend our efforts to bring safety and peace in our City to children who need it most.
Sincerely,
Bonilyn Wilbanks-Free
City Manager
