Kids 4 Kids Club

Here is what we have been up to for the 2000-2001 school year:

For the month of September 2000, our club members illustrated 3x5 cards for the Kindness Card Project. This project was done by CBS 4's Neighbors 4 Neighbors. The illustrations were on the front of cards given out to individuals in the community we performed Random Acts of Kindness. The cards first made their way into the community at a premiere of the movie "Pay It Forward." Warner Bros. hosted and event for Neighbors 4 Neighbors and Kids 4 Kids. Everyone who attended was given a Kindness Card and asked to pass it on to someone they see performing a kind act.

We had two projects in October 2000. At the first meeting, we made get well cards for sick children in local hospitals. The cards were all beautifully illustrated and had jokes inside to cheer the sick children. In all we sent 250 cards. For our second project, we decorated 250 brown bags for Halloween and filled them with candy as homeless kids can't go trick or treating. The bags were delivered to 3 shelters.

In November 2000, we prepared 10 Thanksgiving baskets with whole turkeys, pies, rolls, flowers, and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner. The baskets were given to needy families in our own school. For our second project, we made banners that were 8 feet long that said, "Love you kids, Lock your guns!" These banners were displayed the a gun buyback event and the mayor even sent us a picture in front of the signs.

In December 2000, we made holiday cards for local hospitals and collected books and new toys for homeless kids. We hosted a holiday party at our school with pizza, music and ice cream and invited homeless children and children with Downs Syndrome to share our fun. We also helped to adopt 60 homeless families for the holidays and brought them gifts and cheer at the shelter for the Adopt-A-Family Day.

In January/February 2000, we decorated bags for Valentines Day and filled them with candy and little toys to warm the hearts of abused kids. We delivered 300 bags in all to show we care. We also made GET WELL signs to hang in the rooms of terminally ill kids. They were poster size and said, "Kids 4 Kids sends you sunshine to brighten your day". Each sign was personalized with the name of a sick child.
